Tao Leigh Goffe
Tackling the conceptual grounds of how maps have been deployed as tools of imperial capitalist extraction, this essay critiques how the two-dimensional visualization of land has traditionally flattened the racial entanglement of the Caribbean archipelago. It explores how born-digital cartography can be used to open up a new sensory possibility for understanding space amplified by sonic and video technologies. The author embarked on the digital project *Unmapping the Caribbean* with her students and a team...

Ying Chen, Li Li, Li-Rui Jiang, Jia-Yin Tan, Li-Na Guo, Xiao-Li Wang, Wei Dong, Wen-Bao Wang, Ji-Kai Sun & Bo Song
Two new alkaloids, phranisines A–B (1–2), along with two known compounds, N-p-Coumaroyl serotonin (3) and N-p-coumaroyl-tryptamine (4), were isolated from the roots of Phragmites australis. The structures of 1–4 were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic. The absolute configuration of compounds 1–2 were identified through quantum-chemical electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation compared with their experimental CD. All the isolated compounds were tested for their cytotoxic activities against HeLa and MCF-7 human cancer cell lines,...
Complete genome sequence of the Clostridium difficile LCL126
Jianfeng Wang, Chu Yang, Chao Zhang, Xiaoyan Mao & An Lizhe
Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is a kind of obligate anaerobic gram-positive Bacillus related with intestinal diseases and antibiotic treatment. In present study, the C. difficile genome was studied employing met genomic technology. Genome sequencing identified C. difficile LCL126 has total size of 4,301,949 bp with a 27.97% of GC content. Specifically, 4119 predicted coding genes, 188 repeat sequences, 13 prophages and 8 gene islands were detected. Additionally, gene function analysis aspect of the function annotation,...

Weiqing Jiang, Tingting Wang, Chen Liu, Mingzhu Deng, Xiao Ren, Fei Wang, Yaqing Zhang, Xueying Yu, Lingling Yao & Yonggang Wang
Migraine is a primary headache characterized by moderate or severe headache attacks, accompanied with reversible neurological and systemic symptoms. There are rare biomarkers for the disease. While emerging evidence has indicated the connection between gut microbiota and migraine, the relation between oral microbiota and migraine is barely known. Thus, the objective of the current study was to explore a possible correlation between oral microbiota and migraine. We compared the oral microbiota communities of migraine patients...

Andrea Won, Diana Tamir & Ketaki ShriramA scoping review of the host-agent immune-related interactions and outcomes associated with African swine fever infection of swine.
Karyn Havas, Hector Aguilar-Carreno, Kelly Weigand, Diego Diel & John Ekakoro
This scoping review aims to compile all the research completed on host immune responses, viral-host interactions, and viral evasion associated with the African swine fever virus. Specifically, it will answer, "What are the virus-host interactions and immune responses associated with ASF virus infection in swine?" This will be a scoping review that follows the 5 stage methodology framework outlined by Arksey and O'Malley (2005) with the extension suggested by Levac et al. (2010). Finally, it...
Explainable Bayesian Knowledge Tracing for Education Applications
Kimberly Williamson & René Kizilcec
This study will use explore the use of explainable techniques in educational algorithms. This study is guided by the following research questions: (1) Can adding textual explanations increase the trust and understanding of an educational algorithm for end users? (2) Can adding visual explanations increase the trust and understanding of an educational algorithm for end users? We hypothesize that by providing textual and visual explanations to education algorithms will increase the trust and understanding of...

Gina Roussos, Laura Niemi & Liane Young
In this study, we will test a replication of the implicit causality task with stereotypically White and Black male names that revealed biased attribution in previous research (Niemi, Young, and colleagues, unpublished). We will also measure moral values, as in prior work (Niemi et al., 2016; Niemi, Hartshorne, Gerstenberg, Stanley, Young, under review).
Identifying Roadmap Characteristics associated with Completion of URM and Female-Identified Students
Kimberly Williamson
This project is looking at whether different characteristics of a roadmap can explain the variation in completions rates (computed from IPEDS) of URM and female students.
