Dutch Collective Labour Agreements Database and Monitoring 2003 - DUCADAM 2003

Dr. K.G. Tijdens, Drs. K.P.A.B. Schreuder, AIAS, Universiteit Van Amsterdam (Primary Investigator)
Characteristics of almost four thousand collective labour agreement contracts (CAO's) signed by the FNV union, concerning the period 1995 until 2004. The DUCADAM dataset contains more than thousand variables which can be divided into the following main categories: income and function, working hours and time-tables, pensions, various kinds of leave conditions, provisions for young employees, working conditions, environmental issues, education, social security, participation, quality of contracts, international issues, and meta cao characteristics.

The Armagh-Dunsink-Harvard Telescope: From Dream To Oblivion

C. J. Butler
The Armagh-Dunsink-Harvard (ADH) Telescope was an instrument with a checkered history that, unlike many telescopes that have a productive life of many decades, has now all but faded from memory. Nevertheless, its story is worth telling, if for no other reason, because of the part it played in Irish and international astronomy in the crucial years following the Second World War.

Numerical Simulations of Three-Dimensional Instabilities in Cavity Flows

Guillaume Alain Bres
Direct numerical simulations are performed to investigate the stability of compressible flow over three-dimensional open cavities for future control applications. First, the typical self-sustained oscillations, commonly referred as shear-layer (Rossiter) modes, are characterized for two-dimensional cavities over a range of flow conditions. A linear stability analysis is then conducted to search for three-dimensional global instabilities of the 2D mean flow for cavities that are homogeneous in the spanwise direction. The presence of such instabilities is...

Emotion-Based Framework for Multi-Agent Coordination and Individual Performance in a Goal-Directed Environment

Giovanni Vincenti, James Braman & Goran Trajkovski
Through the use of a multi-agent system composed of emotionally enhanced sets of agents, we investigate how emotion plays a role in inter-agent communication, cooperation, goal achievement and perception. The behaviors of each agent are derived from its perception of the envi- ronment, its goals, knowledge gained from other agents and based on its own current emotional state, which is predicated on fuzzy sets. The state of each interacting agent is determined by its level...
